Statistics from first half of STCC 2011

Flash Engineering has gathered complete statistics of the STCC 2011 season with half of the season completed. Who has won the most races? Who has claimed most fastest laps? Who has made most overtaking maneuvers? Who has been penalized most times?

Join us as we go through the statistics of the first part of STCC 2011:

Victories

Championship leader Fredrik Ekblom is alone on three victories so far this year. Jan ”Flash” Nilsson is second best with two victories. The rest of the victories are divided on five drivers from four different teams.

Second places

While the first victory of the year still has not come for Rustad, the Volvo driver has got the most number of second places, a position providing seven points less compared to a victory.

Third places

The lead of the number of second places is close with four drivers on two third places in the form of James Thompson, Rickard Rydell, Colin Turkington and Tomas Engström.

Podiums

Fredrik Ekblom proves his consistency and the reason for him leading the championship. The Volkswagen driver has been on the podium in half of the races this year, one more podium than second best driver Rickard Rydell.

Pole positions

Fredrik Ekblom is also on his own with pole position in three of the five qualifying sessions so far this year. Tommy Rustad and Rickard Rydell has claimed the two other poles.

Q2

Tommy Rustad and Rickard Rydell are the qualifying experts of this year so far by making it on to the second qualifying session, Q2, in five out of five times. The championship leader Fredrik Ekblom has missed Q2 once, in the premiere race in Denmark.

Note that Johan Stureson has only made it to Q2 twice this year and has despite that scored a lot of point and is currently fourth in the championship.

Qualifying average top ten

The top trio of the championship is superior in the qualifying average in the five race weekends of 2011. Rickard Rydell is best of them all with an average starting position of 2.4, one place better than Tommy Rusta and close to two positions better than championship leader Fredrik Ekblom.

James Thompson is best of the rest with 7.4 in average starting position, close to twice as many positions behind Fredrik Ekblom. Johan Stureson is best BMW with 8.2 in average, 0.2 positions better than manufacturer colleague Colin Turkington.

Tomas Engström and Richard Göransson are included but separated as they have not taken part in all qualifying sessions.

Q1-average top ten

Going back one step to the first qualifying session, Q1, and top three is unchanged for positions. Rustad keeps his average to Q2 while both Rydell and Ekblom drops positions.

Colin Turkington on the other hand loses 1.4 positions from Q1 to Q2 while James Thompson gains one position on average. The top eight drivers of the 20 minute Q1 session goes on to the Q2 session of 10 minutes which decides the grid for top eighth to the first race.

Reversed grid

Johan Stureson has got the best starting position with the reversed grid for the second race with an average position of 5.4. The grid for the second race is decided via reversing the top eight from the first race.

Jan ”Flash” Nilsson and Rickard Rydell are secon best with 6.4 on average, one position behind Stureson. James Thompson is furthest down the list, much due to two retired first races, meaning that he had to start last in the second race.

Reversed grid pole position

Finishing eighth in the first race means pole position for the second race. Mattias Andersson has claimed most reversed grid poles this year so far with two.

Jan ”Flash” Nilsson, Richard Göransson and Rickard Rydell tops the list of fastest laps with two each from the ten races so far this year.

Average position top ten

Rickard Rydell has got the best average finishing position so far this year with 3.6 while championship leader Fredrik Ekblom, who has scored more points despite lower average, is on 4.9. Colin Turkington has got the third best average on position 6.1.

Overtaking maneuvers

Jan ”Flash” Nilsson is just like last year best on overtaking in the STCC. To compensate his modest qualifying average, the double STCC champion has on average gained three positions per race from his grid position.

Closest, 0.9 places behind, is Patrik Olsson who impresses with a lof of overtaking maneuvers in the races in contrast to his, like ”Flash”, modest qualifying average.

Tommy Rustad is furthers down the list, just like last year, and loses on average 1.2 positions per race from his grid postion. Part of the reason is incidents but also mistakes from the norwegian.

Victories team

The victory statistics for the teams is almost identical with the driver statistics. Team Biogas.se tops the list with Ekblom’s three victories. Flash Engineering is second thanks to Jan ”Flash” Nilsson’s two victories, on the same position as IPS Motorsport/MA:GP, also on two victories thanks to Johan Stureson and Mattias Andersson.

Podiums team

Fredrik Ekblom and Patrik Olsson is the best combination so far this year with Team Biogas.se, averaging position 6.1 in the 10 heats completed so far this year. Second best is the Flash Engineering duo of Colin Turkington and Jan ”Flash” Nilsson on position 6.5, closely followed by sole Seco Tools Racing driver Tomas Engström.

Retired races team

Chevrolet Team Sweden is the team with most number of retired races. Rickard Rydell retired one race at Knutstorp due to a damaged suspension while team mate Viktor Hallrup has retired in 40 % of the races this year.

Penalties/Warnings

Chevrolet driver Viktor Hallrup has gotten most penalties and warnings with four of them so far. Tommy Rustad, who topped the penalty list last year, is right behind on three penalties.
